The Business Administrator Apprenticeship
As a Business Administrator, a wide set of skills will give you a valued place in virtually every type of business and sector. Once you have mastered the skills, you can develop specialist knowledge for your chosen sector, for example, finance, legal, HR, marketing, medical. You must be able to work on your own or as part of a team developing, implementing, maintaining and improving administrative services. The skills, behaviours and knowledge you attain on your programme will ultimately support your career to a higher level immediately and beyond that towards management or specialist responsibility.
You will learn to work and plan more efficiently, always using a positive attitude and a proactive approach – so you anticipate events and situations, solve problems and make good decisions. You will develop great communication skills and build effective interpersonal relationships with internal and external customers.
You will aim to know your department and division inside and out and to see the business as a whole, understanding the organisation’s vision, aims and objectives and their place and value in the market. You will understand the value of your own contribution.
Programme Outline
Initial Assessment and ‘Build Your Profile’
To assess where you are now. Skills audit and personal traits, preferred working styles, share learning styles, an insight into how people see us, our challenges.
Interpersonal Skills
Developing strong working relationships with your manager, team, peer group and other stakeholders across the business. Self-awareness, giving and receiving feedback.
Planning & Organisation
Responsibility for managing priorities, resources & time, initiating and completing tasks, organising meetings & events, taking minutes and creating Action Logs. Managing expectations.
Communication
Effective communication both written and spoken, influencing & assertiveness. Communication styles and presentations. Clarity and impact
Skills Optimisation
Review learning, outcomes & achievements, questioning & listening, prepare for Manager discussions, short presentation and project idea.
Project Management
Learn how to scope, plan, monitor, report and deliver successful projects. And think about your own business improvement project you can undertake
Decision Making
Use decision making tools and techniques to analyse and solve problems. Take ownership for issues and improvement. Deal with challenges with maturity and know when to refer upwards.
Records & Document Management
Produce and maintain accurate records and documents, inc email, letters, reports and proposals. Draft clear and effective correspondence. Understand the importance of confidentiality.
IT
Ms Office and software relevant to your organisation. After initial skills’ assessment, bite-sized online training sessions designed to close personal skills’ gaps are available. IT skills evaluated through quality of documents and work turned out.
Quality
Set and demonstrate high standards and continuous improvement and share best practice. Evidenced by observations and testimony from Manager, colleagues, stakeholders or team.
Your Project
Work on this between months 9 – 12. Choose a process or system to improve or initiate that will benefit yourself, your Manager, team or the business. Discuss your idea with your manager and tutor then, using your new skills and knowledge, scope, research, plan and action it. Track the progress/results so that you can do a report and presentation for your assessment.
End Point Assessment
Training, your portfolio and project complete, you are ready to take your assessment. The Knowledge test is online and your Portfolio based interview and Project presentation will be conducted through an online meeting or on the telephone. Good to aim for a Distinction!
