Job Title: Business Analyst (Gas and Power Trading – Fundamental Balances)
Location: Canary Wharf, 3 days per week on site
Pay Rate: PAYE £720 per day / Umbrella (Inside IR35) £855 per day
Length: 8 months, Temporary
Start Date: ASAP

We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst to join a global organisation, working within the Gas and Power Trading division. The role will focus on analysing and documenting supply and demand balances in European gas and power markets, including the impact of storage and transportation capacity.

As the Business Analyst will play a key role in enabling the transition from daily snapshots to real-time fundamental balances, improving traders’ ability to respond to market changes. You will collaborate closely with trading desks, strategy teams, operations, and technology, translating business needs into actionable technical requirements.

Responsibilities

• Analyse and document European gas and power supply/demand balances, storage, and transportation capacity.
• Support transformation to real-time fundamental balances for trading decisions.
• Partner with trading desks to understand pre-deal problems, market dynamics, and instrument impacts.
• Lead stakeholder engagement and requirement elicitation across front office, strategy, operations, and technology.
• Translate business needs into clear technical requirements and support delivery.
• Apply technical skills in SQL, data curation, and version control workflows.

What we are looking for

• Proven experience as a Business Analyst in energy trading environments.
• Worked on pre-deal problems within this space.
• Strong understanding of European gas and power market dynamics, supply/demand balances, and storage/transportation capacity.
• Knowledge of traded instruments, both simple and complex.
• Excellent business analysis skills, including stakeholder management and requirement elicitation.
• Technical skills in SQL, data management, and code branching.
